4300-mile Bike Ride across the US
Newsletter ExcerptMeanwhile, the mud swelled up to my ankles and ensnared my feet like quicksand. I slipped and slid over rocks treacherously plastered with slick leaves. The bulging streams along the trail left me no choice but to leap from rock to rock and across a submerged bridge. Towards the end, a demoralizing flood of chocolate water flowed over the rocky landscape. I thought it must take a special kind of crazy to find paradise sitting on a rock with the rain pouring from above as I retied my laces in the gloom, glad to not have to sit in the mud. Needless to say... I loved it! I finished in 9 hours 22 minutes, nicely within the cutoff. Ten hours of mud and happy smiles in a place I now seem to belong.
