2016-12-03 - Long Path - Fort Lee to Nyack
Neil and I started at Fort Lee and hiked north through the Palisades Interstate Park. We had originally met during a similar hike back in May. Seeing it during a different season with leaves sewn across the ground was a great experience. I remember back when I thought the park was huge and would take multiple visits to see. Now we were hiking through the entire length and many more miles on top of that.
After lunch at the wonderful Lookout Inn, we continued north through the rest of the Palisades, other parks, through Piermont. At Piermont the path separately greatly from the path we took in May led by Tom and ascended up and around several steep hills. The elevation changes slowed us down and I was quite tired when we finally finished at a McDonalds near to Nyack but excited to come back to continue the expedition. The day was beautiful. 23 miles. 3000 feet of total elevation gain. About 8 hours.
