2016-05-27 - Reunion
I hosted a French cyclist named Florent at my place Thursday night. He had just finished spending 11 months cycling around the United States.and would fly back to France four days later. I helped prepare breakfast for him and we took a photo together before I left at 9:30 AM to cycle down to my high school, McNair Academic in Jersey City.
I had taken the day off to go to their alumni career event. Split up into 3 groups of alumni in different health classrooms, we did our best to answer questions from the students about college and jobs. Before and after the event, I had the chance to go catch up with all my previous teachers that still teach there. The teachers Selby, Short, Wasmuth, and Namery are all retiring this year. I never had Namery but it was great to have the chance to see Mr. Selby, Ms. Short, and Ms. Wasmuth again.
After the high school event, I hurried on my bike to Sky Thai to get lunch with a few previous coworkers I had not seen for a year. I then walked with them into my old office building to meet all the people I knew there who were still there on a Friday afternoon before a long weekend. It was a great experience and you really can't beat the view. I smiled and laughed so much during the day that my cheeks ached. I'm really glad I chose to take the day off work to do this although I did miss an IBM event with free food.
Almost everyone in the office was gone by 5 PM so I got ready to leave. I returned home and 6 PM and was so tired, I went to sleep at 9 PM. I ended up waking up at 3:30 AM the next day to bike 77.5 miles from Jersey City to the top of Bear Mountain and back to Nyack.
