My name is Jack Shi. I love being outdoors and exploring the world. For any and all who might come to this blog themselves to learn and explore, it is a fortunate quirk of mine that I cannot help continuously expanding and sharing my knowledge. Recently I have been stuck in a pattern of dreaming up the impossible one year, making it barely possible the year following, and finally accomplishing it the next. Cycling across the country was one of those dreams and I accomplished it in 2015!
In May, 2015 I resigned from my job to cycle across the country. I spent five days in Bar Harbor on the border of Acadia National Park before riding 4,300 miles to Seattle, Washington with BikeTheUSForMS. We passed through fifteen states, two national parks, and averaged 70+ miles for the 64 days of riding. After the ride, I drove down the Northwest coast with my brother, snaking through the volcanoes of the Ring of Fire and lands shaped by the Cascadia Fault. We spent ten days exploring Seattle, Mount Rainier National Park, Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument, Portland, Crater Lake National Park, Lava Beds National Monument, Mount Lassen National Park, and Redding.
Towards the end of 2016, I decided to hike the entirety of the 360-mile Long Path plus detours over the course of two years. Follow along with my adventures!
